Abbreviations and Common Terms
- Added in Series A Gematria technique of adding the digits of a number together is a set pattern. For two digit numbers they are just combined. (e.g. 24 would be 2+4 = 6). For three (or more) digit numbers the pattern is as follows. e.g. 397 would be (3+9+7) + (3+97) + (39+7) = 165. [see Chart of Series]
- Aliquot Number. The sum of the proper divisors of a number, excluding itself, e.g. the Aliquot Number of 1234 is 620. (1 + 2 + 617).
- AOS Austin Osman Spare
- BCE Before the Common Era. Pre-Jebus.
- Baphometric Value The Baphometric Value of a Sephiroth is derived from adding the Value of the Letter-Paths that terminate at that Sephiroth. eg. On the Tree 528 the Baphometric Value of Malkuth is 111 because that is the sum of the paths of Aleph, Yod, and Qoph.
- CE Common Era. After Jebus.
- e.g. Exempli gratia. Meaning "for example".
- Esoteric The inner or hidden meaning. Secret and reserved for an elite who are in the know.
- et al. An abbreviation of the Latin et alia, "and others". Indicates there are (many) more examples than have been provided.
- Exegesis Critical examination of a text. Particularly of religious works.
- Exoteric The outword or plain meaning, the public face of a teaching or organization.
- Final (In reference to a letter of the Hebrew Alphabet. There are five Final letters representing the values of 500 through 900.
- ibid. Short for the Latin ibidem, meaning "in the same place.
- Major Trends Major Trends in Jewish Mysticism by Gershom Scholem.
- Monolatry The belief in one God, while acknowledging that others might exist. The religion depicted in the Tanakh is a monolatry
- Monotheism The belief in one and only one all powerful God which may have created the Universe but is distinct from it.
- Multiplied in Series Using the same patern as Adding in Series, except.. multiplying. 123 Multiplied in Series would be (1x2x3) + (1x23) + (12x3) = 65
- Ontology The branch of Metaphysics dealing with the nature of being.
- Ordinal The value given to an object in a series based on the order of its position in that series. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.
- Origins Origins of the Kabbalah by Gershom Scholem.
- O.T.O Ordo Templi Orientalis
- Panentheism A belief model wherein All That Is is contained within and is part of God, but the Godhead is distinct from Creation
- Pantheism A belief model wherein absolutely everything is God.
- Plene To spell out the name of a Hebrew Letter in Full. e.g. MIM is the plene spelling of the letter M.
- PRE The Pirke de Rabbi Eliezer
- RAW Robert Anton Wilson
- sic Usually written in brackkets [sic] to indicate the preceding word is incorrect, misspelled or otherwise just plain wrong damnit, in an original quotation or citation.
- Solipsism An extremely silly philosophical position that the only thing that is real is one's self and everything "else" is the product of one's mind. Unfortunately very hard to refute, except that it is so fucking stupid.
- Supernal Refers to the first three Sephiroth
- SY Sefer Yetzirah
- Ur Number The sum of the given value of a Letter-path, plus its ordinal, plus the reduction of either of those numbers (in the Hebrew numbering system, the reductions of the ordinals and the letter-values are always the same number). The Ur Number of Lamed would thus be 45. The Value 30 plus the ordinal 12, plus the reduction 3.
- viz. Short for "videlicit" - permitted to see. Used to mean "specifically" or "namely" or "to wit".
- Z.A. Ze'ir Anpin, the Microprosopus, the Bridegroom. Represents the Sephiroth from Chesed to Yesod.
